Great Teeth on Just Four Implants!
Dental implants have been around for a few years now. Many people know about them as the perfect solution to getting tooth replacement. They can replace one or more teeth, and can be applied to single teeth, dental bridges, and partials. A more recent process called all-on-4 enables you to get all of your teeth replaced (upper or lower) with just four dental implants.
This process uses just four dental implants in each arch to support a full set of dentures. Instead of needing a full mouth of costly implants, you only need four with this system, which is called all-on-four.
No Bone Restrictions
It used to be that when you wanted a dental implant that dentists would need to measure your jawbone height and width to determine whether or not it was sufficient. If it was not, you would need to have a bone graft to build it back up to the height needed. This is still true for single dental implants. Once the bone graft was completed, you would need to wait three to six months before it healed.
After it healed, the dental implant could be implanted. Then you would need to wait another three to six months for the bone to attach to the implant. Finally, you could get the new crown for your tooth.
The new all-on-4 dental implant system no longer has a size requirement for the jawbone – except in extreme cases. This is because of the placement of the implants. The forward (anterior) two implants are placed vertically in your jaw. This is standard.
The difference in the all-on-4 system is in how the back two implants are placed. The periodontist will put them in at an angle that is up to 45 degrees from the vertical. This angle enables the implant to take advantage of the maximum amount of bone, which is why the amount of bone no longer matters.
When you are in consultation to get the all-on-four system, the dentist will take a visual scan of your teeth and gums. You will also receive a 3-D scan which will enable the dentist to determine the best angle to place the implants.
Get Beautiful Teeth Faster
The all-on-four dental implant system is much faster than the methods that required bone grafts. Even better is that you can walk in to the dentist’s office without any teeth and then walk out with a full set of beautiful teeth.
You can also walk in with teeth that need to be extracted and still walk out with new teeth. The implants can be placed immediately following an extraction.
The teeth that you get on the day of the dental implants are temporary teeth. Although you can use them for chewing, you will be eating soft foods for a while. After the bone has become attached to the dental implants, which will be from three to six months, you can then get your new implant supported dentures with permanent teeth.
Advantages of All-On-4 Teeth
The biggest advantage of the all-on-four dental implant system is that it will give you stable teeth. You no longer need to be concerned about them slipping at an inappropriate moment. You will be able to talk or eat with confidence and you will also be able to eat what you want.
In addition, the new implant-supported dentures will last longer than traditional dentures. Almost all people who have been given this system have found that they will last at least ten years – and the implants may last a lifetime.
Having to make fewer visits to the dentist because you do not need bone grafts is going to save you some money. This also means that the all-on-4 dental implants system means less time spent in the dentist’s chair.
Another way that you may be able to save money is that it may be possible to use your current set of dentures. It is not always possible, however. The dentist will need to look at them to determine whether or not they can be used. You should know, though, that a set of dentures created for dental implants are stronger than regular dentures and they will last longer.
Instead of getting individual dental implants for each tooth, you will save money because it only requires four implants. That will end up giving you quite a savings.
